Celebrating the life of
Malcolm W. Williams
March 29, 1920 - December 03, 2017
Malcolm Willie Williams, age 97, died on December 3, 2017, at his Savannah residence. Born on March 29, 1920, in Bulloch County, he moved to Savannah in 1939, and in 1943, Malcolm married Edwina Hodges. They were married for 74 years; she preceded him in death on October 15, 2017.
A Veteran, Mr. Williams served in the European Theater during World War II. After the war, he returned to Great Dane Trailers in Savannah for what would become a 45-year career. An active member of the Savannah Chapter of the International Management Council of the YMCA, he served as its President. In the 32 years since his retirement, he continued to do the things he enjoyed throughout his life: fishing, traveling, being outdoors, helping others, and hosting family for cookouts. Being surrounded by his loving family was second only to his service to our Lord. A member of Immanuel Baptist Church for over 70 years, he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and faithful member of the Silver Nuggets. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and mentor, he shared his many talents and Christian love with others.
Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his parents, George and Maggie Williams, siblings Alton Williams, Jim Williams, Eugene Williams, Anne Fell, Belle Mincey, Faye Scott, J.D. Williams, Lula Dekle Trapnell, Zeal Miller, and his wife, Edwina Hodges Williams.
He is survived by a brother, George Williams (Louise) of Pembroke, GA; two daughters, Patsy Williams Robinson (Randal) of Savannah, GA and Becky Williams Waters (Gene) of Statesboro, GA; four grandchildren Beth Robinson Burgin (Will) of Columbus, GA, Katy Robinson Byram (Whit) of Cairo, GA, Josh Waters (Brandi) of Statesboro, GA, and Jon Waters (Jennifer) of Statesboro, GA; eight great-grandchildren Sarah Byram, Liam Burgin, Susannah Byram, Alex Burgin, Nathan Waters, Emilee Waters, Tyler Waters, and Will Waters; and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Whit Byram, Will Burgin, Josh Waters, Jon Waters, Jerry Gill, Richard Powell, Bill Norwood, and Jeffrey Sills.
The family is grateful for the loving care provided by Beth Powell, Judy Smart, Regina Lester, and Margie Jaques, the exceptional medical care provided by Dr. Robert F. Brown, Jr., and the assistance provided by Kindred Hospice.
The funeral service will be held at Immanuel Baptist Church, 7375 Hodgson Memorial Drive at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 10, 2017, with Reverend Mark Layton officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
Interment will follow at Hillcrest Abbey East Cemetery, Savannah.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Immanuel Baptist Church Building Fund or Kindred Hospice.
